Imidacloprid and pyriproxyfen is a combination of drugs used as a monthly treatment for fleas and lice. It is commonly used on dogs and cats.
Imidacloprid and pyriproxyfen should not be used on animals less than 8 weeks of age. A veterinarian should be consulted before administering to senior pets or animals that are debilitated, pregnant, or nursing. While adverse reactions to this drug are rare, as with all pesticides, there is a possibility of negative reactions to the drug. Care should be taken to ensure that imidacloprid and pyriproxyfen does not get into the eyes or mouth of the patient.
Imidacloprid and pyriproxyfen should not be used in animals with a known allergy or hypersensitivity to the drug. A veterinarian should be contacted immediately if any alarming symptoms appear or if an overdose occurs.
Imidacloprid and pyriproxyfen should be kept in a cool, dry location where it cannot be reached by children or animals.
Imidacloprid and pyriproxyfen is supplied as a topical solution in individually sealed packets. The solution should be administered in between the shoulder blades where the pet will not be able to ingest the medication. Care should be taken to ensure that the solution is applied directly to the pet's skin. If an application is missed, it should be administered as soon as possible. Two doses should never be administered within a 30 day period.
Doses may vary in different species, when the drug is given by a different route or concurrently with other medications, and with regards to a patient's age, breed, and health status. A veterinarian's dosing instructions and/or those printed on the medication label should be followed closely.
